An Unexpected Phenomenon

So I put on my jeans this morning, and realized that I looked like someone on those ads for weight lose. I could pull my pants much further away from my stomach than expected. I had to tighten my belt two extra holes today. With my other pants, its really only been one, which isn't that big, but now its two. I had not planned to lose weight, I didn't feel I really needed to. But apparently I have.

My secret, eat almost nothing because 1) the French apparently only have toast for breakfast, 2) French don't eat unless they are actually sitting down at a restaurant, they never eat while on the go 3) I really can't afford to eat as much as I did in the States. Being, I'm not working/earning any money and basically spending my life savings to be here. Deuxieme part of my secret, walk everywhere. No, I really mean everywhere. Fifteen minutes to the train station, ten minutes from the train station to school, everyday, plus two to three hour walks three to four times a week, not to mention the twenty minute walk to church.

I'm trying to decide if I should buy a pair of pants just so I can say 'look how skinny I once was' or if I should just continue to tighten my belt because I'll gain it all back when I come home.

Amen to walking everywhere. I did that when I was in Germany. Walked to bus stops, etc. and rode bikes too. I gained quite a bit of weight after I graduated because I wasn't walking everywhere. Anyway, save the old pants but buy some new ones so you can say that they're from Paris!

Same thing when I was in London - I dropped two pants sizes. Sadly, it didn't last long. But, OF COURSE buy a new pair of pants. You are in PARIS! How many normal people can say they have a pair of pants from Paris?

buy the pants! for 2 reasons. 1. to celebrate that you are the only person I know who lost weight on study abroad (I gained 10 pounds even with all the walking due to the patisseries, yogurt, and AMAZing chocolate.) and 2. because your in france and you"ll always have "la mode."

So, what does it mean when you gain 10 pounds and you lose and inch in the waist?

It means you've gained muscle and lost fat. The weight isn't nearly as important as the inches. I actually haven't lost any inches around my waist, sad to say. Mine all came from my hips.
