I cannot tell you how many times I have been asked this question. As it was really an accusation, I had no idea how to truly answer it. But after the question was posed again to me this weekend, I would like to ask all "nice guys" why on earth they always go for the girls who like the jerks? I know plenty of girls who like nice guys, who don't even give jerks the time of day. The problem with nice guys is they are nice to everyone and nice girls have a hard time telling if the nice guys actually like them, or are just nice because they are nice. And these nice girls would totally love to go out with the nice guys, but because the nice guys are always chasing the girls who like jerks, they never ask the nice girls out. And then they wonder why girls like jerks. Some nice girls do end up dating jerks because they are the only ones that actually ask them out. Other girls finally give up waiting and actually live their lives (hallelujah) and then the nice guys are too intimidated because the girl actually knows what she wants.
Not all girls like jerks. I have never dated a jerk.
To all those 'nice guys' out there, if you think all girls like jerks, you are probably looking for the wrong kind of girl. Get some backbone and ask a nice girl out!!
To all the 'nice girls', don't ever settle for a jerk. I promise its not worth it. Better to be happy single than miserable married. Actually its better to be miserable single than miserable married also.
Not sure how well I articulated that, but there it is.

Agreed on the better to be single than miserably married sentiment. My parents were miserable married my whole life and I wish they hadn't been married at all. Sometimes it's better that way.

However, have you ever considered the fact that sometimes the nice girls like to date the jerks because the girl thinks it is an opportunity to serve and help (a charity project, if you will). Therefore, the nice guys go after the girls that like the jerks, because the nice guys know those girls are nice.
I think I may have played a quick game of verbal tennis

As for nice guys needing to get a backbone. I completely agree! That's why I've got mine! :)
I have heard that some nice girls like to date jerks as a challenge, but I'm not sure how much I really believe it. Unless its because on some level, all guys are jerks.
I don't really believe that, but I do believe that all guys are completely clueless at times which may come across as being a jerk.
And I think the nice guys going after nice girls that are dating jerks is just an excuse to chase the girls that are dating jerks. There are plenty of girls not dating anyone, why do guys always go for the ones who have multiple dates a week?
And why am I having this conversation with you Don?
